Welcome to 2017 Model UN!

Model UN is an annual simulation designed for students at the College of Charleston to practice the skills of international diplomacy, negotiation, and public speaking. During this 2-day event held on November 3-4, 2017 students will represent different countries and will have an opportunity to learn about the history, culture, politics, and economics of the country they choose to represent. This is a great opportunity to debate global issues and develop leadership skills.

What should you expect?

You need to do background research on the country you choose to represent and on issues discussed in your committee. Each student will also be required to prepare a one-page position paper. Finally, students will meet for a General Assembly meeting in November for the final debate. You can register for any country and represent it in one of the four committees. Keep in mind that registration is available on a first-come-first-serve basis. If some committee/country is not available, someone else may have already reserved it. Hurry and register today!

Interested in participating in Model UN?

1) Register online https://goo.gl/4dMTdA.

2) Download the draft resolution/background guide for your committee. Study the draft resolution/background guide and do research on the topic and on your Member State's position. Note: draft resolutions will be available in late September.

3) Prepare a 1-page position paper and offer revisions, additions, and recommendations, based on your Member State’s position on this problem. How has your country dealt with it in the past? How should we resolve the problem now? Email your position paper by October 26 to charlestonModelUN@gmail.com
